SPEAKING AT CONFERENCES
Episode 1: Weathering the Storm: Business and Taxpayer Impact
Extreme weather is driving up costs for businesses and taxpayers alike. In this episode, Gloninger and his special guest, Daniel Zarrilli, Chief Climate & Sustainability Officer, Columbia University, Former Chief Climate Policy Advisor, NYC Mayor’s Office, examines the financial toll of climate disasters, from damaged infrastructure to disrupted operations, and explores how communities are responding under pressure.
Episode 2: Bridging the Divide
As climate threats intensify, outdated weather policies are putting communities at risk. Gloninger and his special guest, Dr. Samantha Montano, Assistant Professor of Emergency Management, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Disaster Policy & Climate Crisis Expert, explore the gaps in storm planning, the consequences of underinvestment, and the urgent need for smarter, forward-looking strategies.
Chris Gloninger, Meteorologist, Skytop Contributor, and Host of SkytopTV’s Extreme Weather, engages with Admiral Michael Franken, a Department of Defense leader on climate-related threats, to explore the convergence of national security, extreme weather, and the emerging risks and opportunities they present. Reports of hurricanes damaging aircraft carriers, disabling power systems, compromising control centers, and interfering with satellites should give you reason to nestle in from the storm—and cue up your favorite music. “Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you got till it’s gone”—a lyric famously sung by Joni Mitchell—echoes the big debate over whether extreme weather is truly extreme, or simply weather. It’s a refrain that leaves me stuck in the reprise. Oh, baby, I don’t want to hear that song no more.
