Mark Freedman is the Founder and CEO of Rebel Global Security, an advisory firm that helps business leaders, especially in critical infrastructure, navigate geopolitical and national security risk. He founded the firm in August 2022. Rebel replaces outdated, "guns, gates and guards" approaches to security with intelligence-led, whole-of-business strategies. Its services include security risk assessment, enterprise security risk management, and executive briefings that draw on a network of former ambassadors and senior intelligence, defense, and law enforcement officials.
Freedman spent nearly a decade as a U.S. State Department officer and strategic planner. He served as Chief of Staff to the Ambassador-at-Large for Counterterrorism, helping run a 150-member bureau that managed more than $1 billion in foreign assistance funds. He led interagency surge teams to strengthen security cooperation with European allies after the 2015 Paris ISIS attacks. He also developed strategic plans to contain weapons proliferation during the Arab Spring and created a first-of-its-kind multilateral forum for security information sharing. His State Department awards include the Superior Honor Award.
In the private sector, he was a strategy consultant at Deloitte Consulting and Associate Director for National Security at Xcelerate Solutions. He is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), and he sits on the ASIS Steering Committee on Enterprise Security Risk Management. He is a frequent speaker and podcast guest on terrorism, nation-state threats, and corporate security strategy.
Freedman holds a Master's degree in Security Studies from Georgetown University and a Bachelor's degree in International Affairs from The George Washington University.
